Waxwing winter.

​2012 was my first  waxwing winter : Climate conditions meant a failure in berry crops in Northern Europe. As a result flocks of the extraordinary, exotic looking Waxwings arrived in Britain in search of food. Most recently (2023) i found a new influx of Waxwings in North East scotland (Forres) . In 2022 : images from Sunderland  then from 2016  a fantastic repeat performance! Following are images from  trip to North Wales, (orange Rowan berries) then to a location near Clitheroe in Lancashire. (Red Rowan berries). (Following that are the first images I took of Waxwings in Oxfordshire 2012.)  To attract these birds to your garden, plant berry bearing trees and shrubs such as Rowan, Pyracantha, Crataegeus and Yew.
