Starlings and their murmurations.

In Autumn Starlings gather into large numbers to roost in the evenings. This is thought to be to help protect themselves by sheer numbers. At dusk the gathering flocks will sometimes give spectacular shimmering displays , flying in beautiful patterns before dropping as one into their roosts. These are often reed bed reserves and these images are from Otmoor RSPB, Leighton Moss RSPB and near Gretna Green.
